Today’s blog was supposed to be another travel piece about Stromboli but given that an earthquake erupted in the last few days, resulting in loss of human life, I would rather keep that one for another time out of respect. So, today I am going to talk about my latest achievement. Over the last few weeks, in between study breaks, I have been thinking of ways to publicise my blog. I’m no expert in SEO, but I do know that I’ve been blogging for a long time. Considering the time and effort I’ve invested in writing, I should really have achieved much more and should probably have one of the top Scottish blogs. I decided to add my blog to a few networks and build my business. My only goal is to increase the number of page views each month. I mean, the ultimate goal would be to make money, but it’s not that big a deal. For now, growing my blog is enough. That’s why last week, I was thrilled when Feedspot declared that Rock Paper Spirit is number 86 in their Top 100 Scotland Blogs! I can’t tell you how excited I was, especially considering that there are some big names on the list.
The ranking is based on hits and social stats, quality of contents, Google ranking and the opinion of the Feedspot team, so there’s a lot to be judged on here. I was surprised my site made the list at all and I suspect it’s mostly down to the follower count I have on Twitter. I’ve always thought I have more followers there than I deserve and I’m not really sure how to keep track of them all.
You may be wondering what the next step is for me. I think achieving a spot in the top 75 would be awesome and after that, who knows? Maybe top 50 one day would be nice. In the meantime, I’m going to keep writing about things that interest me, building my following and hopefully readers will keep coming back.
Professionally, it’s actually been an awesome week, because as well as this, I received a nomination for the Sunshine Blogger Award, which was a great way to network with some other bloggers and discover some exciting sites. This week, I’ve put my name forward as a potential writer for another site, but more on that if/when I get accepted. It would be exciting if I did.
